Ich kann mich (4.10.2018) den kritischen Reaktionen nur bedingt anschließen. Ich nehme die "Saxon Tales" als eine Entwicklungsgeschichte wahr. Auf der einen Seite Utred, auf der anderen Seite Englaland. Anfangs der junge, wilde ist Utred nun älter oder alt. Wenn Menschen älter werden, nehmen sie eher die Risiken in ihrem Leben wahr, werden vorsichtiger und, ja auch ängstlicher. Genau diese Entwicklung wird auch bei Utred beschrieben. Er wird des Kämpfens müde und nimmt die Toten mit Bedauern wahr. Gleichzeitig wird angedeutet, dass er nun doch langsam zu alt für das Kämpfen wird. Sein Vorsicht ist auch in beschriebenen politischen Entwicklungen begründet: Eine falsche Entscheidung und sein "Lebenswerk" gerät in Gefahr. Das macht ihn vorsichtiger. So erinnert einen die erzählte Geschichte an ein Schachspiel, bei dem die Protagonisten nach einem Schlachtplan ihre Züge ausführen. Und dieses "Schachspiel" scheint mir das Neue an Cornwells "Sxon Tales" zu sein, das hatte sich schon mit den letzten beiden Büchern angedeutet. Und viele Reflexionen von Utred, der auf ein langes Leben zurückblicken kann und wie Cornwell im Nachwort andeutet, dieses Leben in noch einem weiteren Band fortsetzen wird. Ich bin gespannt!Kurz gesagt, das Kämpfen tritt in den Hintergrund, aber das "Älterwerden" und das Reflektieren tritt in den Vordergrund. Der Tenor ist pessimistisch und spiegelt mglw. Cornwells eigene Erfahrungen wider.
Uhtred von Bebbanburg wird trotz forschtschreitendem Alter nicht kriegsmüde. Mit Anfang 60 muss er nochmals ins Feld ziehen und sich mit einem jungen Emporkömmling aus dem fernen Norden anlegen, und all das mit einem Fluch der Götter belegt. Der Plot wird mit Blick auf den ultimativen Show-Down etwas durchsichtig, was der Lesefreude am Gemetzel der Antagonisten jedoch keinen Abbruch tut... Leseempfehlung für alle Bernard Cornwell Fans!
These novels became a “must read“for me every year. There is so much good research in this series that it’s a pleasure to read. Most historical fiction is absolutely lost. This series is amazing and,as a teacher, I can use this in history class because it is not only fact based but interesting
Another great book from the "Last Kingdom" series. Again good combination of history, interesting reading and suspense / exitment
..dieser Roman-Reihe! Ich bin schon nach kurzer Zeit auf den letzten 100 Seiten. Es wird nicht langweilig!Ich habe bisher alle Uthred-Bände (im Original) gelesen. Wie gut die deutsche Fassung ist, kann ich nicht sagen.
Hat mir wieder mal gefallen. Einzelne Aspekte unglaubwürdig u. z. T. langatmig, aber spannend und historisch korrekt soweit bekannt. Empfehlung für Freunde der englischen Geschichte
Die Uthred-Saga ist Pflichtlektüre für alle Freunde historischer Romane. Der zehnte Teil ist zwar nicht der beste der Serie, aber jederzeit lesenswert. Cornwell versteht es, echte “page turner†zu schreiben.
Einfach nur gut. Jedes Buch dieser Serie ist ne Bombe. Ich lese diese Reihe jetzt seit 10 Jahren und markiere mir mittlerweile die release Daten im Kalender.
